Pick the tooth up by the crown — the part you normally see — and not by the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline, or water if that is all you have. Do not scrub it and do not remove any tissue attached to it.
If you can, place it back in the socket and hold it there. If you cannot, keep it in milk. Then call us immediately. The chance of saving a knocked-out tooth falls sharply with time.
